MemberPad vs Kajabi

Kajabi is a course and marketing suite, built around funnels, email sequences and scheduled course delivery, and it is very good at selling. MemberPad is built around a live community with courses, podcasts and real time video inside it, and it costs nothing until a member pays you.

The short version

Choose Kajabi if

  • Email is how you sell. Kajabi includes broadcasts, automated sequences and behavior triggers with no send limit, where MemberPad meters email and starts at 5,000 recipient sends a month.2
  • Selling is the hard part of your business, not community. Kajabi has landing pages, sales pages, funnels, order bumps, upsells and behavior triggered automations, and MemberPad has almost none of that.2
  • You want one product to run email marketing as well. Kajabi includes unlimited email broadcasts and automated sequences on every plan, against a metered allowance on ours.1
  • You want a mobile app in the stores under your own name and can carry $499 a month for it. Kajabi Pro includes one, and MemberPad has no branded app at any price.1

It is a tie on

  • Both host podcasts themselves rather than sending you to a separate provider, which almost nothing else in this comparison does.2
  • Both run courses with modules and lessons, sell memberships and one time purchases, and support coupons, trials and multiple currencies at checkout.2
  • Both ship mobile apps for members, and on both the version carrying your own branding sits on a higher tier rather than the entry one.1

Choose MemberPad if

  • You want a community rather than an audience. Kajabi communities are discussion boards attached to a marketing suite, and MemberPad is a real time community with rooms, presence and chat at its center.2
  • You are not earning $179 a month yet. Kajabi’s cheapest plan is $179 monthly and caps you at five products, one community, one website and 2,500 contacts.1
  • You want to run live video yourself. Kajabi names coaching sessions rather than broadcasts, video rooms or audio rooms, and MemberPad runs all three with replays saved automatically.2
  • Your work needs marking rather than delivering. MemberPad assignments come back to you to approve or reject, and certificates are issued on completion.

What each one costs

Kajabi quotes two separate fees and it is worth keeping them apart. Kajabi Payments charges 2.9% plus 30 cents, which is card processing rather than a platform cut. Bringing your own processor instead costs 2% on Basic on top of whatever that processor charges, which usually works out worse.1

Comparing like with like, Basic is $179 a month plus 2.9%, and MemberPad is 9% plus the same 2.9% from Stripe. The two meet at roughly $1,989 a month in revenue, which is the highest crossover of any direct comparison here.4

The caps matter as much as the price. Basic allows five products, one community, one website and 2,500 contacts, so a creator with a course, a membership and a few downloads can run out of room without ever reaching the revenue that would justify $249 a month.1

What each one takes on top

Where a percentage is shown above, that is Kajabi's own rate and it already covers card processing, so unlike ours there is nothing further to add to it. MemberPad takes 9% of what a member actually pays you, and card processing sits on top of ours as well, billed by Stripe on your own account. There is one plan, nothing is held back behind a higher one, and a month where nobody pays you costs nothing.

From about $1,989 a month, Kajabi Basic costs less than MemberPad. Below that we are cheaper, mostly because there is no monthly bill to pay in a quiet month.

  • Basic overtakes us at about $1,989 a month
  • Growth overtakes us at about $2,736 a month
  • Pro overtakes us at about $5,424 a month

Community

Kajabi sells to an audience, MemberPad runs a room

Kajabi’s communities are discussion boards bolted to a marketing suite, and that is not a criticism so much as a description of where the product’s attention has gone. Everything Kajabi is genuinely excellent at happens before somebody becomes a member.2

The caps tell you the same thing. One community on Basic and on Growth, three on Pro, and two admin users on the entry plan. Those are the numbers of a product where community is a feature of the offer rather than the offer itself.1

MemberPad starts from the opposite end. Chat rooms with presence and typing, member profiles, follows, direct messages, polls in the feed and in rooms, and none of it plan gated because there are no plans. If daily conversation is what you are building, that difference runs through everything.

Courses

The strongest course product here, and the delivery gap has closed

Courses are what Kajabi was built for and it shows. Modules, lessons, assessments, hosted video, progress tracking in a member portal, and drip schedules as a standard part of the course rather than an add on.2

Drip is no longer a loss for us. MemberPad releases a section or a lesson at a fixed date and time, or a set number of days after that member started the course or joined the community, so a cohort that enrolls one at a time still moves through it together.

Two things still separate the two. Kajabi meters nothing about email and we start at 5,000 recipient sends a month, and Kajabi has abandoned cart recovery, order bumps and upsells where MemberPad has none of the three. If the course is the product you are funneling strangers into, that machinery is most of what the $179 buys.2

Where MemberPad pulls back is marking. Assignments are handed in, reviewed by a creator, and approved or sent back for another attempt, and certificates are generated on completion. Kajabi names assessments but not submitted work. Which of those you need depends on whether you are teaching or examining.2

Podcasting

The one comparison here where both sides host audio

Kajabi is the exception in this portal. Podcasts are a named product, described as publish, host and monetize, without sending you to an outside provider. That puts it well ahead of Circle, Skool, Mighty Networks and everything else on this list.2

Kajabi does issue a private feed per person, and its help center describes the mechanism: a private podcast is attached to an offer, and each subscriber receives a feed URL carrying an access token of their own. This page used to treat that row as unclear, and it was wrong to.3

So this is closer to a tie than a win for either side. Both issue a feed per member and both lock a show behind something bought. Ours adds one tap subscribe for Apple Podcasts and Overcast, where Kajabi asks a listener to copy a URL and paste it into their player, which is a smaller difference than a missing feature.

Live

Kajabi schedules time with you, it does not carry video

Coaching is a real Kajabi product and covers one to one and group sessions, with the booking, the payment and the delivery all handled in one place. For a coach selling hours, that is a better fit than anything MemberPad offers.2

What it is not is live video infrastructure. There is no broadcast product, no audio room, and the session itself happens on whatever tool you already use. Nothing is metered because nothing is being carried.2

MemberPad runs the video itself in three formats and saves the replay to the library. The cost is a minute pool that starts at about three hours of broadcasting a month and grows with revenue, and a rule that live needs at least one paid tier in your own community.

Money

A selling machine, priced like one

Funnels, landing pages, sales pages, order bumps, upsells, abandoned cart recovery, segmentation and behavior triggered automation. If the hard part of your business is converting strangers, Kajabi is the better tool by a distance and MemberPad barely competes.2

The bill for that starts at $179 a month, and the plan it buys allows five products. The crossover against a flat 9% sits near $1,989 a month of revenue, the highest in this whole comparison, which is another way of saying Kajabi is expensive until you are doing well.1

Read the two fee lines carefully as well. Kajabi Payments at 2.9% plus 30 cents is card processing, not a platform cut, and choosing an outside processor costs 2% on Basic on top of that processor’s own fee. That second option is usually worse and is easy to misread as the cheaper one.1

Access

Apps on both, and one more screen on ours

Every Kajabi plan includes the shared customer app, and Pro adds one branded to you and listed in the App Store under your name, which MemberPad cannot match at any price. That is a real advantage and the reason some creators pick Kajabi over everything else here.1

MemberPad answers with desktop. Windows and macOS applications that update themselves, alongside the phone apps, for communities whose members are at a desk rather than between meetings. Kajabi has nothing in that category.2

The Kajabi app is a customer app rather than a community app, and that fits the product. A member opens it to watch a lesson or check a coaching booking rather than to see who else is around, which matters more than whose name is on the icon.

Content

Products to sell, against places for things to live

Kajabi thinks in products. A course is a product, a download is a product, a coaching package is a product, and Basic lets you have five of them. That framing is clean for selling and constraining for everything else.1

MemberPad thinks in sections. A video library with progress and bookmarks, a file library, photo albums, notebooks, events with timezones, polls, and a shop, none of them counted or capped. The trade is that Kajabi will sell them better and MemberPad will hold more of them.

The product cap is the part to model against your own plans. Five products at $179 a month sounds generous until a course, a membership, a coaching package and two downloads have used it up, and the next thing you want to sell costs another seventy dollars a month to list.

Value

Two products that barely overlap, sold to the same person

These two get compared constantly and they are not really competitors. Kajabi is a marketing and course suite that added a community. MemberPad is a community platform that added courses, podcasts and live video. The question is which half of that sentence describes your business.2

If you sell a course to strangers through a funnel, Kajabi is the answer and the $179 is the price of the funnel rather than the course. If your members already know you and the value is in the room, MemberPad costs nothing until they pay, and it now delivers on a schedule too.1

The honest test is which half of your work is the bottleneck. If you know exactly what you sell and cannot get enough people to the page, Kajabi is the right tool and its price is the price of the funnel. If people already know you and the problem is keeping them, that money buys something you do not need.

Moving from Kajabi to MemberPad

  1. Rebuild the release schedule by hand, and check the anchor

MemberPad releases on a date or on days after a member starts, so a dripped Kajabi course maps over, but the rules are typed in again rather than exported. Check which anchor each section should use before you open it to anybody.

  2. Export your contacts and your products

Take the contact list out first, then inventory every product against what MemberPad calls it. Courses become courses, downloads become digital products, coaching becomes events plus a paid tier.

  3. Decide where the funnel lives

MemberPad has a public page and a site builder but nothing resembling Kajabi funnels, landing pages or order bumps. Most people moving keep a separate landing page tool, and that is worth budgeting for rather than discovering.

  4. Rebuild email sequences against a metered allowance

Kajabi email is unlimited on every plan. MemberPad starts at 5,000 recipient sends a month and grows with revenue, so a large list sending often needs checking against that number before the move.

  5. Move the community last

It is the smallest part of a Kajabi setup and the largest part of a MemberPad one, so it is worth rebuilding deliberately rather than porting a discussion board across as is.

What does not come across

Funnels, landing pages, upsells and order bumps have no equivalent on MemberPad. If your revenue currently comes from a Kajabi funnel, moving means either keeping Kajabi for that or replacing it with a separate tool, and neither is free.2

Abandoned cart recovery, order bumps and upsells have no MemberPad equivalent either, and those are the parts of a Kajabi setup that quietly earn while you sleep. Nothing here replaces them, and no coupon or affiliate rate does the same job.2

MemberPad imports both a member list and a contact list and emails each person a one tap invitation to join, so a large Kajabi audience no longer moves one signup at a time. Paid subscriptions are the part that cannot follow, because payment methods never transfer, so every subscriber re subscribes on the new plan.

Questions people actually ask

Is MemberPad cheaper than Kajabi?

Below roughly $1,989 a month in revenue, yes, and dramatically so at the start because Kajabi Basic costs $179 a month before anything sells. That crossover is the highest of any direct comparison here, which reflects how much Kajabi charges for the marketing tools bundled into it.

Does MemberPad have drip content like Kajabi?

Yes. A section or a lesson opens at a fixed date and time, or a set number of days after that member started the course or joined the community, and members hear about it by bell, push and email unless you turn that off. It stacks with our older gate, so a lesson can need both the clock and a passing score.

Can I run a podcast on Kajabi?

Yes, and properly. Kajabi hosts the audio, attaches a private podcast to an offer, and gives every subscriber a feed URL carrying an access token of their own, which is the same mechanism MemberPad uses. The difference is that ours offers one tap subscribe for Apple Podcasts and Overcast rather than copying a URL by hand.

What is the best Kajabi alternative for community?

If community is the reason you are looking, MemberPad is the closer fit, because Kajabi caps you at one community on its two cheaper plans and its communities are discussion boards rather than real time rooms. Circle and Skool are also worth weighing if you do not need podcasts or live video.

Does Kajabi limit how many courses I can sell?

Yes, through a product cap. Basic allows five products at $179 a month, Growth allows fifty at $249, and only Pro at $499 is unlimited. MemberPad does not cap courses, products, communities or members at all, since there are no plans for a cap to attach to.

Which one has better email marketing?

Kajabi, comfortably. It includes unlimited email broadcasts, automated sequences, segmentation and behavior triggered automations on every plan. MemberPad has broadcasts and drip sequences but meters them, starting at 5,000 recipient sends a month and growing as your revenue does.

How much does Kajabi cost?

Basic is $179 a month or $143 billed annually, Growth is $249 or $199, and Pro is $499 or $399. Kajabi Payments charges 2.9% plus 30 cents, which is card processing rather than a platform cut, and using an outside processor instead costs 2% on Basic on top of that processor's own fee.

What is the best Kajabi alternative for a smaller creator?

If the $179 entry price is the problem rather than the features, MemberPad charges nothing until a member pays you and caps neither products nor communities. Podia and Teachable are both cheaper monthly than Kajabi and narrower, so the right answer depends on whether you need the marketing suite at all.

Does Kajabi include a community?

Yes, but one community on the Basic and Growth plans and three on Pro, and they are discussion boards rather than real time rooms. If community is the center of what you are building rather than a bonus attached to a course, that cap is the number to weigh before the price is.

How this was checked

Every figure about another platform on these pages came from that platform’s own published pricing, feature or documentation pages, and each one is listed with the date it was read. Where a company does not publish an answer, the page says that rather than guessing at one.

Nothing here is based on testing a competitor’s product hands on, and no page claims otherwise. Claims about MemberPad are checked against the code that ships rather than against our own marketing, which is why several of them are unflattering.

Fee comparisons put both sides on the same footing. Some platforms quote a percentage that already covers card processing and some quote one that sits on top of it, and treating those two numbers as the same thing is the most common way a comparison like this misleads.
