MemberPad vs Mighty Networks

Mighty Networks is a mature community platform whose top tier gives you genuinely branded mobile apps, and whose plans state their live streaming limits in plain hours. MemberPad covers podcasting and assessed courses that Mighty does not, and charges nothing until you earn.

The short version

Choose Mighty Networks if

  • You want an app in the stores under your own name rather than a shared one. Mighty Pro delivers exactly that, and it is the most established route to it on this list.1
  • You go live constantly and you want to know the limit before you commit. Mighty publishes hours and viewer counts for every plan, which almost nobody else does, and 20 hours on the cheapest plan is more than MemberPad gives a community that is not yet earning.1
  • Your audience lives on phones. Mighty leans hard on native mobile and publishes its own claim that member activity there runs well ahead of web.2
  • You are past roughly $1,129 a month in member revenue. From there the Launch plan’s $79 and 2% costs less in total than a flat 9%.1

It is a tie on

  • Both put community, courses and events in one product rather than asking you to assemble them, and both let you run the whole thing on your own domain.1
  • Both publish real iPhone and Android apps, and on both the fully branded version is reserved for the most expensive tier.1
  • Both take an escalating interest in your success, Mighty by dropping its percentage as you upgrade and MemberPad by raising your allowances as revenue grows.1

Choose MemberPad if

  • Audio is part of what you sell. Mighty names no podcast hosting on its feature pages, and MemberPad hosts shows and issues each member a private feed.2
  • You want no monthly bill while you find your footing. Mighty starts at $79 a month with a 14 day trial, and MemberPad charges nothing at all until a member pays you.1
  • You need to know who passed. Quizzes that gate the next lesson, assignments a creator marks, and certificates are all standard on MemberPad and are not named on Mighty’s.2
  • Your live audience could be larger than a plan allows. Every Mighty tier caps viewers, from 100 on Launch to 3,000 on Pro, and MemberPad puts no ceiling on how many people watch.1

What each one costs

Mighty publishes four tiers whose percentage falls as the monthly price rises, from 2% at $79 down to 0.5% at the top. Both sides charge that percentage on top of card processing rather than instead of it, so the figures below include processing on each.3

Against the Launch plan the two cost the same at roughly $1,129 a month in member revenue. Below that MemberPad is cheaper, mostly because $79 is still due in a month where nothing sold. Above it Launch is cheaper, and the higher tiers pull further ahead the more you make.1

The tier ladder is worth reading as a whole rather than one row at a time. Moving from Launch to Scale costs another $100 a month and buys back one point of fee, which only pays for itself past about $10,000 a month in member revenue.1

What each one takes on top

Where a percentage is shown above, Mighty Networks charges it on top of card processing, which Stripe bills separately, so what a sale really costs is the two added together. MemberPad takes 9% of what a member actually pays you, and card processing sits on top of ours as well, billed by Stripe on your own account. There is one plan, nothing is held back behind a higher one, and a month where nobody pays you costs nothing.

From about $1,129 a month, Mighty Networks Launch costs less than MemberPad. Below that we are cheaper, mostly because there is no monthly bill to pay in a quiet month.

  • Launch overtakes us at about $1,129 a month
  • Scale overtakes us at about $2,238 a month
  • Growth overtakes us at about $4,165 a month

Community

A mature product that knows what it is for

Mighty has been doing this for years and the product carries that. Spaces, chat, direct messages and profiles all work the way somebody who has watched a thousand communities grow would build them, and the AI cohost making introductions between members is a genuinely good idea rather than a bullet point.2

MemberPad organizes the same job as chat rooms grouped into sections beside one feed, with presence and typing, and chat costs nothing on any community. Members get profiles, follows, blocks and private notes on each other.

The two answer this differently. Mighty leans on AI nudges that suggest who should meet whom, and MemberPad on points, levels, badges and a leaderboard the creator switches on when the board has enough people earning to look alive. A course can also be set to open at a level, so the climb leads somewhere rather than just displaying a number.1

Courses

Courses on both, and assessment on only one

Courses are included on every Mighty plan and the video is carried by the platform, which puts it ahead of tools that make you embed from elsewhere. For publishing a course and watching people work through it, Mighty does the job.1

What Mighty does not publish anywhere in its plan comparison is assessment. There is no quiz named, no assignment flow named, and no certificate named, and a platform that had them would normally say so on a pricing page.1

MemberPad puts a gate in the middle of a course. A quiz has to be passed before the next lesson opens, an assignment comes back to you to approve or send back, and a certificate is generated at the end. That is the difference between teaching and publishing, and it is the main reason to prefer us here.

Podcasting

No audio product, on a platform that otherwise covers a lot

Mighty covers community, courses and events thoroughly and simply does not do podcasts. Nothing on its feature pages names audio hosting or a feed, which for a platform this broad is a notable absence rather than a deliberate simplicity.2

So the show stays where it already is, on a podcast host, and the Mighty membership sells access to a space containing the episodes instead. Members listen on a website rather than in the app where they listen to everything else.2

MemberPad hosts the audio and hands each member an authenticated RSS feed of their own, which turns a paid show into something people hear on a commute rather than something they mean to catch up on.

Live

The clearest live limits anywhere, against an allowance that grows

Mighty deserves real credit here. It publishes exactly what each plan includes: 20 hours a month and 100 viewers on Launch, 30 and 200 on Scale, 40 and 1,000 on Growth, 50 and 3,000 on Pro. Almost nobody else in this comparison tells you the limit before you have paid.1

MemberPad meters differently, as a pool of participant minutes that grows with your revenue. A broadcast costs eight pool minutes per wall clock minute, so a community earning nothing gets about three hours a month, and one earning $1,000 a month gets about twenty four.

Read those two together and the trade is clear. Mighty gives you more live time on day one, and MemberPad gives you more once the community is working, with no cap at all on how many people watch. If your audience could outgrow 100 concurrent viewers on a $79 plan, that ceiling matters more than the hours do.1

Money

A ladder of tiers, against one number that never moves

Mighty rewards commitment. Each step up the ladder costs more per month and takes less per transaction, ending at half a percent. If your revenue is large and predictable that is an efficient shape and it beats a flat percentage comfortably.1

It is also a shape that asks you to guess. Choosing a tier means predicting next quarter’s revenue, and a slow season still costs $79, or $179, or $354. MemberPad charges 9% of what actually happened and nothing when nothing does.1

The crossover against Launch sits near $1,129 a month. It is worth knowing that upgrading from Launch to Scale to buy back a point of fee only pays for itself past roughly $10,000 a month, so the middle of that ladder is narrower than it looks.1

Access

The branded app question, which Mighty answers best

This is Mighty’s strongest card and it should be said without hedging. Mighty Pro puts apps in the App Store and on Google Play under your own name, and it is the most established route to that among these platforms. MemberPad cannot do it at any price.1

Below that tier both products ship a shared app, and MemberPad adds self updating Windows and macOS desktop applications that Mighty does not offer. Which of those matters depends entirely on whether your members are on a phone between things or at a desk all day.2

Mighty publishes its own claim that members are considerably more active on mobile than on web. That is worth reading as a statement of where the product has invested rather than as a measurement you can check, since it is their number about their own platform.

Content

Three headline areas, against a longer list of named places

Mighty describes itself in three words: community, courses, events. That focus is part of why the product feels coherent, and all three are done properly rather than sketched.2

MemberPad spreads wider, with a video library that tracks progress and bookmarks, a file library, photo albums, notebooks, polls and a shop for digital products and merch you ship yourself. That is more capability and more to learn, and a platform with more places to put things is a platform where things get lost.

Where that focus costs something is anything that is not one of the three. A file library, a photo album or a set of notes has to become a course lesson or a post, which works, and leaves the thing filed somewhere nobody would think to look for it.

Value

Pay for the apps, or pay only when it works

These two products answer different questions. Mighty asks what a polished community with your own app on a member’s home screen is worth every month. MemberPad asks what a share of the money is worth, and takes nothing in the months there is none.1

If a branded app is on your list, this comparison is already settled and Mighty Pro is the answer. If it is not, and you have a podcast, or a course that needs marking, or a live audience that could outgrow a viewer cap, the case runs the other way.

There is a third option worth naming, which is running both. A creator whose community sits on Mighty for the branded app and whose podcast lives with a separate host is already paying two bills, and comparing one of them against a single product that covers both is the comparison that actually matters.

Moving from Mighty Networks to MemberPad

  1. Take the member list out first

Before touching anything else, export your members from Mighty. It is the asset you cannot rebuild and everything downstream depends on having it in hand.

  2. Map spaces onto rooms and sections

Mighty spaces become MemberPad chat rooms grouped into sections plus the community feed. Course spaces become courses, and event spaces become the events section.

  3. Re upload courses and add the assessment

There is no course importer either way, so lessons and video move by hand. While you are rebuilding, this is the moment to add the quizzes, assignments and certificates that Mighty had no place for.

  4. Work out your live plan before the first session

The metering is completely different. Check what your usual broadcast costs against a pool that starts at about three hours a month, and remember that live needs at least one paid tier in your own community.

  5. Move the domain and invite in waves

Custom domains are ungated on MemberPad, so the address carries across on day one. Invite in groups rather than all at once, so anything awkward surfaces on a small audience first.

What does not come across

If you are on Mighty Pro, your members have an app with your name on it on their home screen, and there is no equivalent on MemberPad at any price. Moving means asking them to install a shared app instead, and that is a real downgrade you should weigh honestly rather than discover.1

MemberPad imports your Mighty member export and emails everyone a one tap invitation to join, so you are no longer re entering each person by hand. Because it invites rather than adds, some fraction still will not come across, and every paid membership is re created by the member since payment methods never transfer.

Your live allowance will start much smaller than a Mighty plan gave you and grow from there, so the first month or two after a move is the wrong time to schedule your heaviest broadcasting.

Questions people actually ask

Is MemberPad cheaper than Mighty Networks?

Below roughly $1,129 a month in member revenue, yes, and by a wide margin at the start because Mighty’s Launch plan costs $79 a month whether or not anything sells. Above that figure Launch costs less in total, and the higher Mighty tiers pull further ahead as revenue grows.

Can I get a branded mobile app on MemberPad?

No. Mighty Pro publishes apps under your own name in both stores, and MemberPad has no equivalent at any price. MemberPad ships a shared app on iPhone and Android plus self updating Windows and macOS desktop applications, but the icon on a member’s home screen says MemberPad.

Does Mighty Networks host podcasts?

No podcast hosting appears anywhere on Mighty’s feature or pricing pages, so a show has to live with a separate podcast host and gets sold as access to a space holding the episodes. MemberPad hosts the audio itself and gives every member their own authenticated private RSS feed.

How do the live streaming limits compare?

Mighty publishes hours and viewer caps per plan, from 20 hours and 100 viewers on Launch up to 50 hours and 3,000 viewers on Pro. MemberPad uses a minute pool that starts at about three hours of broadcasting a month and grows with revenue, with no cap at all on how many people watch.

Which one is better for courses?

Both host course video themselves, which already puts them ahead of platforms that make you embed from elsewhere. MemberPad goes further with graded quizzes that gate the next lesson, assignments a creator reviews and certificates, none of which Mighty names in its plan comparison.

Do both support custom domains?

Yes. Mighty includes a custom domain on every published plan, so it comes bundled with the $79 a month. MemberPad does not gate custom domains at all, meaning a community that has never paid anything can still sit on its own address from the first day it exists.

How much does Mighty Networks cost?

Launch is $79 a month or $950 a year with a 2% transaction fee, Scale is $179 at 1%, Growth is $354 at half a percent, and Mighty Pro is custom priced. Every plan carries its own live streaming hours and viewer cap, and the transaction fee sits on top of card processing rather than including it.

What is the best Mighty Networks alternative for podcasters?

MemberPad, if the show needs to reach members in a podcast app, since it hosts the audio and issues every member a private authenticated feed. Substack and Patreon also do private podcast feeds properly and are worth weighing if a community with courses is not what you actually need.

Can I move my members from Mighty Networks to MemberPad?

You export your member list from Mighty, and MemberPad imports it and emails each person a one tap invitation to join rather than leaving you to add them by hand. Paid memberships still get re created by each member, because payment methods never transfer. If you are on Mighty Pro your members also lose an app carrying your own name, which has no equivalent here.

Is a branded mobile app worth paying for?

It depends on whether your members would notice. For an audience that already knows you and joins because of you, a shared app with somebody else's icon is rarely what loses them. For a business selling to companies, or one whose whole pitch is that this is your own place, the icon is part of the product.

How this was checked

Every figure about another platform on these pages came from that platform’s own published pricing, feature or documentation pages, and each one is listed with the date it was read. Where a company does not publish an answer, the page says that rather than guessing at one.

Nothing here is based on testing a competitor’s product hands on, and no page claims otherwise. Claims about MemberPad are checked against the code that ships rather than against our own marketing, which is why several of them are unflattering.

Fee comparisons put both sides on the same footing. Some platforms quote a percentage that already covers card processing and some quote one that sits on top of it, and treating those two numbers as the same thing is the most common way a comparison like this misleads.
